Call For Equipment Tutorials

by INeedCoffee Staff

INeedCoffee is not an equipment review site. We always refer equipment research questions to CoffeeGeek, which is run by INeedCoffee contributor Mark Prince. Since April 1999, INeedCoffee has provided detailed brewing and roasting tutorials. Specifically, the founding members of INeedCoffee have themselves written many brewing and roasting tutorials. However, the market is able to move faster than us. We need help in keeping up with the many new brewing and roasting systems that are available now.

Tutorials!

We like tutorials. They provide the reader with enough information to decide if the system they are looking at is just what they were looking for, or is too complicated for their needs. Tutorials help the coffee drinker that received their equipment via gift or yard sale. And unlike a 3-page black and white manual, the web has no additional publishing costs associated with longer, more descriptive text and color photos. Tutorials can also include tips on how to work around deficiencies that aren't acknowledged by the manufacturer.

What Makes a Good Tutorial?

Not everything listed below is essential, but these are elements we've discovered our readers what to see in a brewing or roasting tutorial.

  • Step-by-Step operation instructions.
  • Photos, Photos, Photos. Even photos marked up John Madden style are good. (see below)
  • Troubleshooting section. In the event the coffee isn't perfect, what steps can the user take?
  • No Marketing Spin. Our tutorials are not brochures.

Tutorial Examples

Below are some examples of brewing and roasting tutorials.

Why Bother Writing a Tutorial?

As a manufacturer or distributor of equipment, you may ask yourself why you would spend your time writing brewing or roasting tutorials. The reason is simple. All of our contributors get their own contributor page and links to their site. And ONLY contributors get linked to on this site. No article, No link, No Exception! The search engines love this site and the sites we link to. Maria Tindemans of RoyalCoffeeMaker wrote a brewing tutorial for us in 2002 for the Balancing Syphon style vac-pot. A search on Google for "Balancing Syphon" results in a #1 listing for INeedCoffee and #2 listing for RoyalCoffeeMaker. Also our readers can learn about other coffee products this way. Our monthly newsletter reaches 2,000 coffee fans.

Another Reason to Write For Us

We get lots of email asking where to find certain products. When the product in question is provided by one of our own contributors, we always send the referral their wto the contributror's website. For example, when we get an email asking about a mail order coffee of the month club, we refer people to BetterBeans, because CB Miller contributed articles to our site.

Be the First, Be the Best

For most brewers and roasters, we only need one tutorial. This means if you are one of a hundred distributors for a particular product, it is in your best interest to move swiftly, before your competitors. If a competitor does beat you to writing a tutorial, the only way to get yours in would be to write something better. However, there is a limit. We don't need several tutorials on the same subject. Feel free to contact us with any questions or ideas.

Non-Commercial Tutorials

Most of our tutorials are written by fans. Fans are of course still welcome to contribute tutorials.
