Discordant Symphony

by Michael Dunn

Cacophonous
 morning conversation
 competes in
 mind-numbing decibels
over the din
of hairdryers,
showers, electric razors,
Pop-Tarts
 jettisoning from
the toaster, and the
 tortuous

drip
 of the coffeepot.

Monosyllabic
 mumbo-jumbo,
the Twenty-First century
equivalent of
 Neanderthal’s
primal grunt,
 has become a recognized
 American dialect
essential
to our very survival.

Auditory mayhem,
as dehumanizing
and abhorrent
 as any crime,
 follows
closely
 our tintinnabular
 awakening.

The world is too much with us….
Indeed!
